There are a number of reasons why one part may be linked to more than one route, these include:
– Parts may undergo two or more processes, e.g. for surface treatment companies, a part may be processed on one route, returned to the customer for further operations and then back to the sub contractor for further surface treatment on a different route.
– The same part may be provided to multiple customers at varying prices. and within DNA prices are route dependant, so multiple routes would allow this.
– If routes are machine/plant specific, there may be more than one machine capable of performing a particular operation. The creation of multiple routes allows machine selection to vary dependent on available capacity.
